The most important meal of the day - MADRID

Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day or it's definitely up there in my top 3 anyway.

When it comes down to eating breakfast in Madrid you'll be struggling to choose where to eat as the choice is endless.

One of the main queries I get is 'where should I go to eat in Madrid?'. Madrid, like many cities, is extremely popular for breakfast/brunch and having lived in Madrid for 2 years I would definitely say I am an expert when it comes to finding the best places to eat.

This blog post is focused on breakfast not brunch as that would be a very long blog post. Breakfast for me is one course, something simple and light whereas brunch is heavier and may have more than one course.

Here is my top 3 cafes for breakie in Madrid.

1. FEDERAL

Plaza de las Comendadoras, 9, 28015 Madrid

One of my favourite cafes ever. I used to eat here all the time when I lived in Madrid as it was right beside my college. The interior is very minimal but that's one of the reasons why I love it. When the weather gets warmer they open the windows and you can sit on the window sill and drink your coffee. Guaranteed one of the smoothest cups of coffee you'll ever have.

To drink: Cafe con leche

To eat: Eggs Benedict

2. LITTLE BIG CAFE

Calle de Fernández de los Rios, 61, 28015 Madrid

When I lived in Madrid I used to live just around the corner from here, actually my gym was right beside it. I can tell you I spent a lot more time in this cafe than I did in the gym.

Let me tell you there is nothing 'big' about this cafe and that's why I love it. It's probably one of the smallest cafes I've been in, I would say it has a capacity of 20 people max and some more seats outside so try to avoid peak times if you want to get a good seat.

The interior is so cool, half the walls are taken over by a black board with the menu written on it and they also have a wall with polaroids of customers, such a cute little touch!

To eat: Avocado and sesame toast and carrot cake for something sweet (it's amazing!)

To drink: Cafe con leche & freshly squeezed orange juice

3. CEREAL HUNTERS CAFE

Calle de Mejía Lequerica, 14, 28004 Madrid

Firstly, let me tell you that this is an experience in itself. TOP TIP avoid peak times! I waited 20 minutes in a queue to get a table in here.

If you are a cereal lover you will LOVE this. And its not just for people with a sweet tooth, they do every type of cereal and I mean every type from special K to Lucky Charms.

And it doesn't stop there you can pick what kind of milk you want with your cereal. Seriously, the choice is crazy! Normal milk, chocolate milk, strawberry milk, blue milk! Then you have to pick toppings, cookies, oreos, m&ms, reeses, kit kat, marshmallows, the list is pretty much endless.

This is also a VERY instagrammable place if you're looking to take some cool pictures and trust me you won't be the only one in there taking out your camera.

To eat: Fruit loops with marshmallow topping.

To drink: Chocolate milk

There are so many great breakfast places in Madrid, these are just the ones we visited last time we were over.

I hope this post hasn't made you too hungry!

Talk soon!

Besos,

Zoë Elizabeth
